Kessler 10 (K10) Training Program for Living at Home (LAH) Assessment Officers 2011/12

The Community Mental Health Planning and Service Coordination Initiative (CMHPSC) supports the implementation of the Victorian Mental Health Reform Strategy at a local level. A number of activities have been identified and implemented in the Grampians, the K10 being one of these.

The HACC Program specifically recognizes that mental health is not solely the responsibility of specialist mental health services. (Department of Health, 2010)

The SCTT uses the K10 to measure psychological distress, the K10 scale asks questions about feelings of anxiety, hopelessness and worthlessness with the scale score indicating an individuals level of psychological distress.

The broad goal of this project is to improve the capacity of the HACC LAH assessment staff to respond effectively to clients with suspected mental health issues. For further project description please read the projects final report below.

This project would not have been possible without the ongoing support and commitment from Ballarat Health Service-Aged Persons Mental Health Service.

HACC Community Support Worker training – Grampians Region

In 2013 the Aged Persons Mental Health Team provided a series of face-to-face training opportunities for Community Support Workers who provide HACC funded personal care. This training was developed to provide the support workers with confidence to work with clients who have a mental health problem. This was done by providing a de-mystifying approach to mental health, an understanding of some of the more common and less common disorders and the importance of early intervention.
